The statistics of the automobile industry show that after applying CAE technology, the proportion of the cost of the new car development period to the development cost has dropped from 80% to 90% to 8% to 12%. The automobile industry is a rapidly developing industry, and its competition is becoming increasingly fierce. CAE analysis in the automotive industry mainly includes three key parts:

Complete vehicle :
CAE for this part usually needs to do kinematics and dynamics simulation to simulate the smoothness, comfort and passability of the vehicle. This requires the establishment of a virtual prototype of the complete vehicle to determine the parameters of the complete vehicle.


Large assembly or large subsystem :
Automobiles are usually divided into four major systems: body, chassis, engine, and electronic and electrical systems. After the parameters determined by the vehicle analysis are broken down into each assembly, CAE analysis is required for each assembly to determine whether these parameters can be achieved in each assembly.


Components and small assemblies :
This part mainly involves CAE analysis of components (sub-assemblies), such as doors, door seals, engine blocks, suspensions, panels, crankshafts and pistons, intake and exhaust systems, tires, wheels, etc., to determine whether their mechanical properties meet the overall design requirements, or to optimize them to further improve the initial design.


Through CAE simulation analysis of key parts, the performance of all aspects of the product can be grasped at the conceptual design stage. At the same time, CAE’s virtual testing function allows the car to start digital simulation testing from the concept stage. Compared with traditional trial and error verification tests, it not only saves a lot of manpower and material costs, but more importantly, it can save mold and sample trial production time, greatly shortening the entire product development cycle.

An Introduction

Based on the actual situation of customers and the application business characteristics of XX Research Institute, Baode has tailored a new CAE simulation computing system for XX Research Institute to meet the needs of various CAE applications for high-performance computing.


Design system : The design system meets the design and pre- and post-processing needs of design/simulation users. The design system solution provided by PowerLeader can provide a high-performance single computing core, large memory capacity per core, good memory performance, and meet the requirements of 3D visualization. The PowerLeader dedicated high-end graphics server PT6620P with high local IO performance can meet the urgent needs of multi-user remote pre- and post-processing and design, and the graphics server can be remotely deployed centrally, with unified management, diverse services, and data security.


Simulation system: 10 sets of PowerLeader multi-satellite products PR2725TP2 are used, which are specially built performance-optimized data center modules, tailored for high-performance computing scenarios such as data centers, suitable for high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence applications, and designed for the second-generation Intel® Xeon® Platinum 9200 processor. Each computing module has up to 24 DDR4DIMM slots, which can maximize the processor and memory bandwidth, thereby providing leading performance that can meet the most demanding computing requirements and meet the parallel computing requirements of more than 100 million grids. Professional and personalized simulation solutions are formulated according to user application characteristics and case scale. The simulation system can be seamlessly integrated with the design system to form an integrated and mature solution.


Storage system: Most CAE simulation software has good parallel scalability and large amount of example data. In order to cope with the massive data generated by high-throughput computing, PowerLeader high-performance cluster is equipped with PL-XDFS distributed parallel storage system. PL-XDFS supports massive data, online expansion, and synchronous improvement of storage capacity and aggregate bandwidth, meeting the requirements of high-throughput computing for storage systems.


Network system: PowerLeader high-performance cluster is equipped with a high-bandwidth, low-latency Omni-Path high-speed network, which meets the data exchange requirements of various MPI programs in application software, improves multi-node parallel efficiency, and speeds up the simulation calculation process.


Software system: PowerCloud cluster management and job scheduling system provides an industrial simulation cloud version that meets the requirements of the manufacturing industry, realizes a unified portal for design and simulation platforms, integrated management, monitoring management and job scheduling, as well as a graphical portal for commonly used mainstream commercial CAE software that conforms to user habits, supports portal customization and development, and provides an HPC basic operating environment.


Operation and maintenance service: Baode online operation and maintenance provides 7*24 hours online operation and maintenance services for high-performance clusters, ensuring the good operation status of the cluster, freeing researchers from tedious cluster management work and investing more time in the actual scientific research process.
